The Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (SAAE), a registered scientific society in India, had its genesis at the National Centre for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (erstwhile MGDC), Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu in January 2019. The SAAE is one of the most regular, vibrant scientific societies in India with a regular annual meet in different parts of the country. The annual meet provides a platform for all scientists working in the fields of alternatives to use of animals in drug discovery and toxicity testing to interact, exchange ideas and update their knowledge in the relevant field.
The Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (SAAE) promotes humane education systems by way of introducing alternatives to the use of animals in research and education, the pragmatic translation of which will be to promote the internationally accepted “Concept of 3R’s”– or “Alternatives” – Reduction, Refinement and Replacement – of use of animals in education, research and testing.
The society will bring together stakeholders in the 3Rs – academia, scientific community, industry, government and animal behavior / welfare personnel from national / international levels to raise the awareness / facilitate the exchange of information / ideas on alternatives by way of national level seminars, workshops, congresses, etc.
The society is head-quartered at the National Centre for Alternatives to Animal Experiments, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The center (erstwhile MGDC), is a well known, recognized and referral point in prospects of changing the attitude towards the alternatives to use of animals in academics and research communities of the country.
